| Your students will create easy-to-read "flip books" that will allow them to form prefixes! Each mini-booklet is on a single piece of paper for ease of use! The students cut out 8 small cards and staple them to a ninth that forms the back, to create a booklet in which the cards are "flipped" up to create a new word each time.
For example, for the "pre-" book (see example below) the students read "preconocer." They flip up the word conocer to reveal the word decir while the prefix pre remains. They then read "predecir." This continues with predispuesto, prevenir, prefijo, prejuicio, preocupar and others to give them a total of nine different words all formed using the prefix pre. Each page also includes a definition of the prefix or suffix. The prefix "pre" means "antes." In this way the students can actually see how a word changes by placing a prefix in front, or a suffix behind. As they flip through the nine words in each booklet, they internalize the meaning. This sure beats fil-in-the-blank worksheets!
